The Texas race for a U.S. Senate seat is extremely close, with one point separating Ken Paxton and James Talarico in the latest poll from Emerson College Polling and Nexstar Media. Texas Attorney General and Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton sees growing enthusiasm among Republican voters. His campaign aims to increase turnout, close a fundraising gap with Democrat James Talarico, and highlight Talarico’s positions. Paxton stated he started June 1 with basically $0, while Talarico had just raised 30 million, largely from California and New York. Paxton's campaign spent the summer raising money after a three-month runoff. Paxton accused Talarico of trying to deceive voters right now and running from all these radical positions that he voted on. He cited issues including girls’ sports, gender transitions for children, a state income tax, and diversity, equity, and inclusion policies in schools, characterizing Talarico as really a radical socialist. Paxton clammed up when asked about Texas' THC ban, saying, "Uhm. I don't know the details of it. Let's talk later," before leaving. Journalist Aaron Rupar noted Paxton is being sued for trying to enforce Texas' ban to the maximum extent possible. Podcaster Joe Rogan said going after marijuana would hurt Paxton's chances against Talarico.
