Aid Reaches Flores as Indonesia Earthquake Death Toll Climbs to 48

Aid has reached Flores, eastern Indonesia, following a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that triggered hundreds of aftershocks, widespread destruction, and landslides.

The death toll from the disaster has risen to 48 people. Rescue operations are underway, but remote villages remain difficult to access, and authorities have warned that the death toll is likely to increase further. Indonesian rescuers are actively searching for survivors amidst the widespread destruction. The number of fatalities has climbed steadily since the earthquake struck.

On August 15, the NTT Governor reported five deaths in Flores. Later that day, the death toll rose to 20, according to reports from AFP. By the afternoon of August 15, the number of confirmed deaths reached 38, as stated by a disaster official. On August 16, the toll increased to 47, and then to 48. The earthquake caused damage, making access to some areas challenging for relief efforts.
