Maharashtra FDA Suspends Four Domino's Outlets for Food Safety Violations

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the food business licenses of four Domino's Pizza outlets on Wednesday, including three in Mumbai, for alleged violations of food safety and hygiene norms.

The fourth outlet is located in Satara district. The action was taken during a special drive targeting chain restaurants. In Mumbai, the Vile Parle West outlet faced action for deficiencies in displaying its FSSAI license, potable water, food storage, pest control, and hygiene facilities. The Borivali West outlet was found to have 15% non-compliance, with issues in food storage, temperature monitoring, food testing, cleanliness, and pest control.

The Ghatkopar West outlet was deficient in cleanliness, sanitation scheduling, pest control, and failed to follow FIFO and FEFO practices, along with improper temperature control. The Malkapur outlet in Satara district had about 40% non-compliance, with deficiencies in basic facilities, equipment, cleanliness, and pest control. The FDA, headed by Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, inspected 104 establishments across the state, including outlets of KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Subway, Burger King, Starbucks, and Monginis.

During the drive, operations at two establishments were halted, 95 improvement notices were issued, and five food business licenses were suspended. In Bengaluru, inspections at Zomato's Hyperpure facility uncovered licensing, labeling, and storage violations, including expired ingredients and chicken without an FSSAI license number.
