USS Abraham Lincoln to Dock in Thailand After 200-Day Deployment
The Story
The US Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln will dock in Thailand next week for rest and recreation, a Thai official said on August 25.
The Lincoln recently departed the Middle East after a prolonged deployment, having spent over 200 days at sea without a port call, setting a modern-day record. The ship carries approximately 5,000 sailors and Marines. The Lincoln left its home port of San Diego in November and was later redirected to the Middle East to support US military operations in the war with Iran.
Reports from military-focused outlets Navy Times and Stars and Stripes in August detailed suicide attempts and declining morale on the ship. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated these reports completely misrepresented the conditions on board. Democratic lawmakers have demanded a review of conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln and other US warships participating in the Iran blockade.
Naval deployments typically last between six and nine months, but can be extended during conflict. Thailand is the United States' only treaty partner in mainland South-east Asia. Joshua Aviles has been deployed for roughly nine months due to the Iran war.
