FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono stated on Wednesday that he is experiencing the hardest days of his life following the death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel.

The 30-year-old Spanish footballer died in the early hours of Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest resulting from a collision during a Spanish second division match on Monday. The incident occurred in the latter stages of a 2-2 draw when Owono rushed out of his penalty area into midfield to clear an aerial ball and his knee struck De Miguel in the chest.

The match was abandoned seven minutes into stoppage time as the player collapsed on the field. Spanish national police opened a routine investigation under judicial supervision to examine potential involuntary manslaughter. Owono deactivated his Instagram account after facing online backlash and being subjected to chants of murderer from Tenerife fans, though he received public support from his club FC Andorra, teammate Lautaro Spatz, and the Equatoguinean Football Federation. Santa Cruz de Tenerife chief prosecutor Jose Luis Sanchez-Jauregui stated that criminal proceedings against Owono are very unlikely.
