Death Toll Rises to 40 After Russian Bombing of School in Komyshuvakha
The Story
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Wednesday that the death toll from a Russian double-tap airstrike on a school in the front-line village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region has risen to 40, with over 30 people potentially still trapped under the rubble.
On Monday, Russian forces dropped nine guided aerial bombs on the school, which was being used as a shelter and a humanitarian aid distribution center, striking residents and subsequently hitting arriving rescue workers and police officers. Two rescue workers and four police officers were among the dead, and a 22-year-old woman was hospitalized with burns covering 81% of her body.
The Zaporizhzhia region declared three days of mourning for November 3, 4, and 5. Simultaneously, a massive overnight Russian assault involving 310 drones and multiple missiles struck critical energy infrastructure across nine regions, causing extensive power and water outages in Kyiv and forcing three thermal power plants operated by DTEK to shut down.
