British authorities charged Joshua Kerry, 28, with one count of preparation of terrorist acts, including against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.

The charge relates to activities allegedly carried out between May 31, 2024, and July 8, 2026. Prosecutors allege Kerry struck Widdecombe, 78, 21 times with a hammer in an attack caught on camera, after driving approximately 300 miles from his home in Rotherham to her rural home in southwest England. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans, senior national coordinator for counter-terrorism policing, stated that the force had been running a hugely intensive and complex investigation for some time.

A Reform official told the BBC that this development underscores why Nigel Farage needed £5 million to protect his security for life. Farage is currently facing a parliamentary watchdog probe into a £5 million gift from a billionaire donor before he became an MP in 2024. Kerry is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, October 7.
