Kimberly Guilfoyle is expected to return to Florida after leaving her post as US ambassador to Greece, which means giving up the official residence in Athens, Jefferson House.

Guilfoyle agreed on Tuesday to step down after the White House asked her to resign. She served in Athens for less than a year. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reminded State Department staff of government ethics rules in a letter, without naming Guilfoyle. Rubio told employees to avoid conflicts of interest, act impartially, not use public office for private gain, and follow Hatch Act rules.

President Trump's administration asked Guilfoyle to resign amid allegations she sought money from a donor and accepted lavish hospitality from wealthy Greek businessmen. Guilfoyle previously rejected misconduct allegations made against her in US media reports and stated she would vigorously defend herself. The White House publicly asked for her resignation on Tuesday. Trump reportedly told people, "I had to get her out of here," though the White House denied this statement.

Guilfoyle was forced to leave Fox in 2018 over allegations of questionable workplace behavior, with one assistant accusing her of repeated sexual harassment. Fox paid upward of four million dollars to settle that complaint. A career diplomat is expected to run the US Embassy in Athens as chargé d’affaires until a replacement is named.
