Trump Teases Sweeping European Agreement After White House Meeting
The Story
President Donald Trump predicted a major agreement involving Russia and potentially all of Europe following an unscheduled private meeting with Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev at the White House.
Dmitriev was in Washington to attend an event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump that brought together Russian and Ukrainian representatives to mark a six-day humanitarian ceasefire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky. During the ceremony, Ukrainian Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets presented Melania Trump with the Order of Princess Olga, First Class, in recognition of her efforts in facilitating the evacuation of nearly 800 civilians.
President Trump stated that he did not meet with the Ukrainian officials who attended the White House gathering. The diplomatic developments precede upcoming trilateral negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States scheduled to resume in Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, frontline combat in Ukraine continues heavily centered around drone warfare across the Dnipro River frontier in the Kherson region.
