The Story
Abdul El Sayed won the United States Senate election in Michigan, defeating Republican Mike Rogers by a margin of 52 to 46 percent and becoming the first Muslim elected to the chamber.
El Sayed secured approximately 60 percent of the vote among Jewish early voters in the state, according to an analysis of voting data published by The Forward. Following the election, El Sayed announced the formation of Habibi PAC and named Brenda Abdelall as his transition team director. El Sayed proposed that Medicare for All legislation be labeled Trumpcare for All if necessary to secure presidential approval during a lame duck term. He stated readiness to request the replacement of the Senate Parliamentarian if procedural rules impede healthcare measures.
