Farage Faces Police Probe Over Undisclosed £5 Million Gift

Democracy groups Compassion in Politics and Unlock Democracy have reported Nigel Farage to the Metropolitan Police over allegations of misconduct in public office.

The groups allege Farage failed to declare a £5 million gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne in 2024. Farage, leader of Reform UK, received the payment shortly before announcing his candidacy for Parliament. Lawyers for Harborne stated he expected nothing in return and did not anticipate Farage returning to politics. Farage has denied wrongdoing, attributing the scrutiny to the establishment.

The gift's potential relevance is highlighted by Farage's subsequent advocacy for the crypto industry. Reports indicate Farage had previously told allies he would require a million a year to cover lost earnings if he stood as an MP, totaling approximately £5 million over a parliamentary term. The issue has emerged as Farage contests a by-election in Clacton, triggered by his resignation from his parliamentary seat.

Major parties declined to field candidates in the Clacton by-election, which features Count Binface as a prominent challenger. A parliamentary investigation into Farage's finances is ongoing and could lead to another by-election if he is found to have committed wrongdoing.
