European Airports Disrupt Flights Following Series of False Bomb Threats
The Story
A wave of false bomb threats disrupted aviation across Europe on Tuesday, prompting emergency landings, security searches, and the grounding of at least seven passenger aircraft.
The affected carriers included LOT Polish Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines, Wizz Air, and Ryanair. A Ryanair flight operating from Dublin to Rome was intercepted and escorted by Italian Air Force fighter jets before landing safely. Other impacted flights included planes traveling from the United Kingdom to European destinations, as well as routes heading to Poland, Bulgaria, and Spain.
Law enforcement and airport authorities deployed explosive detection sniffer dogs and conducted thorough searches on the ground. Officials confirmed that all impacted flights landed safely and no explosive devices were discovered on any of the aircraft.
