Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, claims in his upcoming book "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister" that King Charles III, then Prince Charles, sounded giddily elated, like a lottery winner after Diana died in a 1997 Paris car crash.

Spencer told CBS News that Charles seemed upbeat and suggested this attitude could be due to Charles feeling free to pursue Camilla, whom he later married. Spencer also alleged that Charles told him days before Diana's funeral, they'll forget her soon enough. Buckingham Palace pushed back on Spencer's claims, stating, "His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgement and colour memory, even many years after such a loss."

Spencer further claimed that Queen Elizabeth considered restoring Diana's Her Royal Highness title, which she lost upon her divorce. He also wrote that Diana told him their husband is in love with his valet after telling him she was going to get divorced. Spencer detailed feeling shut out by royal protocol during Diana's funeral arrangements, alleging that royal officials turned down a request to play Mozart's "Requiem."

He wrote, "Diana remained theirs, in Buckingham Palace’s eyes, even in death." Prince Harry made his first public appearance at the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards in Greenwich, ignoring a question about Earl Spencer's book, but admitted his first two weeks back in the UK have been eventful. CBS News royal contributor Royya Nikkhah predicted a very tricky few days for the royal family.
