Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the transfer of technologies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for all conventional missile systems to Indian defence companies.

This approval aims to facilitate domestic production within the country. The Ministry of Defence stated the move marks a step towards expanding the role of Indian industry in the nation’s defence ecosystem and enabling greater indigenous manufacturing of advanced missile systems. The technology transfer will help bridge the gap between missile development and large-scale industrial production.

It will allow domestic companies to manufacture these systems, subject to applicable qualifications, certifications, and regulatory requirements. The initiative seeks to strengthen India’s domestic defence manufacturing capabilities and expand the country’s defence industrial base. The Ministry of Defence also stated that the provision will enable a successful transition of missile system development to industrial production, reflecting DRDO's continued efforts to leverage Indian industry capabilities.

This decision will open greater opportunities for Indian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other technology partners to participate in the missile supply chain. The move is aimed at accelerating indigenous missile manufacturing and reducing India's dependence on imports. The Ministry of Defence previously opened the development and manufacturing of missiles, artillery shells, ammunition, and ordnance to the private sector in October 2025.
