Spokane Neighborhoods Devastated by Fires, Buildings Burned

Officials continue to work on containing blazes that have destroyed at least 860 buildings in Spokane, including hundreds of homes.

The scale of the devastation has impacted residents accustomed to fire season. One resident described realizing the immense danger when the fire reportedly jumped over the river. The fires have affected a neighborhood that was wiped out. Rising temperatures and drier conditions are contributing to fires that are more likely to explode, with more people living near forests leading to catastrophic results. An arsonist was reportedly wearing the same shirt he wore to set fires the previous year.
