Fauci Lawyers Establish Legal Defense Fund Amid Mounting Probes

Lawyers representing Dr. Anthony Fauci have created a legal defense fund for him amid mounting federal and state investigations.

The fund, named "The Anthony S. Fauci M.D. Legal Defense Fund," was established to help cover legal representation and associated administrative costs. Republicans accuse Fauci of misleading the public about the origins of COVID-19, and he faces multiple federal and state probes. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul called on the US Department of Justice to prosecute Fauci after Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment numerous times during a July congressional hearing.

Paul's Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee subsequently held Fauci in contempt of Congress. Fauci denies all accusations made against him. David Schertler, a lawyer for Fauci, stated that Fauci faces an unprecedented legal barrage for a retired civil servant and deserves a robust defense. Former President Joe Biden issued a preemptive pardon to Fauci before leaving office.

Fauci retired in 2022 after leading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for nearly 40 years. He also advised seven presidents, including President Donald Trump during his first term as a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force. Three state attorneys-general have since launched their own probes against him. The defense fund is managed independently, with any leftover money after litigation going to charity, and Fauci will not receive payment from it.
