Mark Zuckerberg Buys Historic Strancally Castle in Waterford, Ireland

Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg purchased Strancally Castle in Waterford, Ireland. Brian Baker, a spokesman for Zuckerberg, confirmed the acquisition, stating that Zuckerberg and his family look forward to caring for the historic home and visiting when traveling to Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters.

The 19th-century Gothic-style mansion is three stories and spans 16,000 square feet, situated on a 440-acre estate. The property overlooks the River Blackwater. The Irish Times, which first reported the purchase, estimated the property's value at over $25 million, while other reports cited $35 million or €30 million (roughly Rs 335 crore). The castle was built around 1830 for John Keily, a former member of Parliament, with the main house designed by architects James and George Richard Pain.

Zuckerberg's family acquired the property from Michael Alen-Buckley, co-founder of RAB Capital, and his wife, Giancarla Alen-Buckley. This purchase is the latest example of tech billionaires expanding their real estate holdings outside California. Zuckerberg's other properties include land in Hawaii, a $23 million mansion in Washington D.C., at least 11 homes in Palo Alto, and a massive compound in Lake Tahoe.

He sold his San Francisco home for $31 million in 2022. Zuckerberg, who has shown interest in classical history, has also named his daughters after Roman emperors.
