Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated on Saturday that he will not seek to remain in office beyond the expiration of his current term in 2030, describing the matter as completely settled.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony at the Egyptian Military Academy in the New Administrative Capital, Sisi affirmed that the Egyptian constitution would not be touched. His current six-year term began after his re-election in December 2023, following 2019 constitutional amendments that extended presidential terms from four to six years and allowed him to seek an additional term.

Critics and opposition figures had speculated about the possibility of further constitutional changes to extend his rule. Sisi, a former army general who became president in 2014 after the 2013 military ouster of Mohamed Morsi, also indicated that the period leading up to 2030 would be used to groom a new generation of leaders. In separate remarks at the same ceremony, Sisi called for an emergency parliamentary session to authorize potential defensive actions to protect Saudi Arabia if requested by the kingdom, emphasizing Egypt's commitment to Gulf security and recalling past support from Gulf states. He stressed that any intervention would be defensive and require parliamentary approval.
