Bill Ackman Unveils Six New Investments Including Netflix, Visa, Mastercard
The Story
Bill Ackman revealed six new stock holdings, including Netflix, Visa, and Mastercard, in what is described as his portfolio overhaul in years.
Ackman stated on Thursday that his investment funds began acquiring shares in the second quarter. These funds include Pershing Square USA, which was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in April. Along with Netflix, which Ackman previously held briefly in 2022 before selling at a loss, his funds are also investing in Alcon, Intercontinental Exchange, and S&P Global.
Ackman believes these companies are positioned for strong earnings growth, which he considers the primary driver of investment value. Shares of these companies generally rose on Thursday, with Netflix up 3.3%, S&P Global up 1.1%, and Pershing Square USA shares up 1.7% following the investment disclosures and second-quarter earnings released Wednesday evening. Ackman's investment decisions are closely watched by professional investors and his social media followers.
His portfolio traditionally holds no more than a dozen companies. Pershing Square USA was down 3.5% for the year through July, and London-listed Pershing Square Holdings was down 9.2%, compared to a 10% gain for the S&P 500 total return index.
