Trump Blames Vandals for Dead National Mall Grass After July 4 Event

President Donald Trump blamed "VANDALS" for large patches of dead grass on the National Mall near the World War II Monument and the Reflecting Pool in a Truth Social post on Sunday.

He wrote, "Look what VANDALS did to the grass connecting the vandalized World War II Monument and the vandalized Reflecting Pool, which will be opened again, and better than ever, shortly. Anybody who thinks the Reflecting Pool wasn't vandalized should go back to Law School!" This accusation comes weeks after Trump began alleging that algae blooms and peeling pool lining in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool were also the result of vandalism.

The area of dead grass is the same spot where Trump hosted crowds for a Fourth of July celebration, which included a large bandstand and seating areas. Photographs taken after the event showed workers removing these structures, revealing brown and damaged grass underneath. Trump made his claim without providing evidence or explaining why he believes vandals caused the damage instead of trampled turf from the Independence Day festivities.

Trump's U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, previously dropped a felony case against former Olympic canoeist David Hearn for alleged vandalism to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Pirro concluded that a botched renovation by Trump’s own contractor caused the damage, rather than any vandal. Trump publicly expressed his disappointment with "Judge Jeannine," stating she folded like an umbrella and urged her to revisit the hastily made decision.
