A Polish tourist bus crash on a Hungarian motorway early Sunday killed twelve people and injured at least ten others.
The vehicle, carrying Polish pilgrims, veered off the M3 motorway near the town of Mezokeresztes in eastern Hungary, then ran into a ditch and overturned. Police confirmed the incident, stating the bus was traveling on eastbound lanes towards the city of Nyiregyhaza when the crash occurred. Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced the casualties on Sunday morning in a Facebook post.
Emergency services, including units that entered the coach through its windows, rescued passengers trapped inside. Cranes were used to extract the bus from the ditch. The M3 motorway connects Hungary's capital Budapest with the north-eastern city of Nyíregyháza. Some reports indicated dozens more were injured in the overnight accident.
