US Vice President JD Vance plans to host a Shabbat dinner this week as part of a broader effort to mend ties with Jewish Republicans.

The guest list for the dinner has been scaled down to keep conversations private. Vance also praised the Netflix romantic comedy series "Emily in Paris," calling showrunner Darren Star the Shakespeare of their time. Vance described the show as a massive cultural criticism of millennial decision-making, stating the main character makes atrocious decisions by focusing on her job instead of marrying the French chef.

The Daily Telegraph speculated a political motive for Vance's comments, suggesting he seeks to connect with younger, female voters. Vance is also scheduled to meet with Israel-backing radio host Sid Rosenberg in the White House, ahead of a likely 2028 presidential run. Vance stated that President Donald Trump has an unprecedented track record of opposing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when American interests differ from Israel's.

Vance said the United States cannot allow its Middle East policy to be subservient to the State of Israel. A Pew poll from late March found 60% of US adults unfavorably view Israel and 59% lacked confidence in Netanyahu's handling of world affairs, an increase of 7% in both categories. Republicans are reportedly scrambling to shed unpopular policies and associations before November midterm elections.

Vance previously advised Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016 on how to defeat Donald Trump. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz recently swiped at Vance, suggesting there is no natural MAGA heir to take President Trump’s place in 2028.
