Karmelo Anthony Seeks New Trial, Evidence Kept From Jury Revealed

Information about Karmelo Anthony, including text messages revealing dark fantasies and an obsession with weapons and fighting, was reportedly kept from the jury during his murder trial.

Defense attorneys argue this evidence was important and should have been included to support his claim of self-defense. Collin County Assistant District Attorney Ashley May stated that Anthony was stalking an ex-girlfriend and had sent threatening texts just hours before the stabbing. Anthony had planned to testify at his Texas murder trial but ultimately decided against it due to concerns that prosecutors could introduce potentially damaging evidence about his past.

The public received its first look at this evidence this week as Anthony fights for a second chance. A gentleman's agreement is at the center of Anthony's case for a new trial. The effort to relitigate the case provides a reminder to "Be careful what you wish for. You might get it." Texas Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico claimed the criminal justice system is not working for black Texans in a video of his remarks on Karmelo Anthony’s murder trial that resurfaced on Wednesday.

Talarico made these comments during an August 5 appearance on the New York radio show "The Breakfast Club." He also shamelessly panders on the verdict on a New York-based radio show.
