U.S. President Donald Trump stated Monday that Ukraine and Russia have agreed not to launch attacks on each other’s energy facilities.

Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, "Ukraine has agreed not to hit Russian Energy targets. Russia has agreed to do, likewise!" Trump also claimed, "The World’s Diesel price rise is mostly caused by the Russia/Ukraine War, not Iran." This announcement follows Trump’s call on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries.

During a visit to Ireland, Trump said, "Mr. Zelenskyy has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia." He added, "Let him go after targets but not diesel fuel because he's causing a shortage of diesel." Neither Ukraine nor Russia immediately confirmed Trump's claim. Zelenskyy stated Ukraine has proposed that its partners secure an agreement with Russia that would stop the destruction of critical infrastructure.

He added, "If our partners are ready to ensure that Russia genuinely refrains from striking our electricity system, other energy facilities, critical infrastructure, and food supply routes, then, of course, we are ready to ensure a corresponding halt to our strikes." Zelenskyy also said, "Ukraine is not convinced that Russia is willing to abide by any agreement."

Moscow welcomed Trump's comment, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating, "Any call on the Kyiv regime to stop attacks on civilian economic infrastructure can only be welcomed." Ukraine has stepped up its strikes on Russian oil facilities in recent months. The average U.S. price of diesel hit $6 per gallon for the first time Friday.
