Mayor's Wife to Travel to Syria, Lebanon With NYPD Security
The Story
Duwaji, a Syrian-American artist, will begin her trip on September 20 to countries on the State Department's "Do Not Travel" list due to dangerous conditions.
A source familiar with the security detail stated that Duwaji requested the NYPD protection after traveling overseas last month without police. Mamdani had described his wife as a private citizen at that time. Meanwhile, Mayor Mamdani held a meeting with a group of New York City rabbis from various denominations, including Reconstructionist, Reform, Conservative, and Modern Orthodox, as well as unaffiliated groups.
The meeting, organized by the Mayor's Office to Combat Antisemitism, focused on strategies to strengthen Jewish safety and belonging, maintain communication, and collaborate on shared goals. Phylisa Wisdom, executive director of the Mayor's Office to Combat Antisemitism, described the conversation as open, positive and constructive.
