Woman, Baby Die After Boat Capsizes Near Statue of Liberty

A woman and a five-month-old baby died after a boat overturned near Liberty Island Saturday night.

Emergency responders, including FDNY, Harbor, Scuba, and Aviation units, arrived at the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m. following reports of the incident. Twelve passengers were rescued from the water. The 22-foot bowrider vessel capsized in New York Harbor. Police stated the woman and infant were transported to a hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead upon arrival.

NYPD divers and FDNY were among the first responders to the call. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the cause of the capsizing or the identities of the deceased. The incident occurred on a Saturday night, with rescue efforts continuing into the late hours.
