Hundreds of thousands of protesters took part in nationwide demonstrations across France on Saturday, marking a third consecutive weekend of youth-driven mobilizations against rising living expenses and education policies.

The French Interior Ministry reported total national participation at 320,000 individuals on October 31, including 70,000 demonstrators marching in Paris. The national government mobilized 70,000 police officers and gendarmes across French territory to secure public transit, commercial districts, and administrative buildings. In the capital, municipal authorities diverted the approved march corridor toward the perimeter of Paris after Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez warned publicly of a very high risk of civil unrest during evening hours.

Protests coincided with Halloween, prompting numerous high school students and young activists to assemble wearing costumes alongside members of left-wing organizations. Far-left political leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon joined demonstrators leading the Paris march. Clashes broke out at several points along the Parisian route, including the Porte de Charenton interchange, where masked demonstrators carrying banners reading Insurrection Internationale clashed with security forces.

Similar demonstrations led by student organizations spread into dozens of German cities and parts of Portugal over the weekend, reflecting shared grievances across Western Europe regarding inflation, high rent burdens, and reduced public allocations for secondary schools and universities.
