Trump to Wave Green Flag for Historic IndyCar Race in Washington

President Donald Trump is scheduled to wave the green flag to start the IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix on Sunday in Washington, D.C. The race will take place on a street circuit through the National Mall, passing landmarks like the Capitol and the National Archives.

This event is part of the celebrations for the U.S.'s 250th anniversary. The race is expected to draw approximately 200,000 spectators, with tickets being free and private trackside club passes costing $5,000. Trump's motorcade will complete an honorary loop around the racetrack. This event follows a summer of sports and spectacle organized by Trump, including a mixed martial arts bout on the South Lawn of the White House and a presentation for the FIFA World Cup champions.

The IndyCar race is the latest in a series of events aimed at celebrating the country and Trump's second term, occurring amidst the ongoing war in Iran and rising gasoline prices. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has been promoting the race through a new YouTube series, "The Great American Road Trip," which features his family. Drivers have been practicing and qualifying on the city streets, with Alex Palou securing pole position for the race.
