Imran Khan's Party Files Contempt Petition Over Hospital Transfer

The party of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has filed a contempt petition against the government for allegedly defying a Supreme Court order to transfer Khan to Shifa International Hospital.

Khan's sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, stated that her brother fears suffering the same fate as Egypt's Mohamed Morsi, who died in custody. Khan was reportedly sent to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of the ordered private facility. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party's petition seeks action against government officials and demands Khan receive treatment at the designated private hospital.

Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 on charges he claims are politically motivated. The Supreme Court had ordered Khan's transfer from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital within two days for a medical examination. Khan's sister and personal physician briefed the media about his health, with Khan reportedly telling his sister he is being subjected to torture and inhumane treatment in jail due to prolonged isolation.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated Khan was examined at PIMS due to security risks and that his personal physician was not granted access for security reasons.
