Israeli Forces Withdraw From Hebron After 10 Day Military Operation
The Story
Israeli troops withdrew from parts of Hebron on Monday after a ten-day military operation ordered by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following an October 23 checkpoint attack that killed two Israeli soldiers.
The operation emptied the Al-Jaladah and Ein Deir Baha neighborhoods, displacing 491 families comprising 3,189 people according to municipal figures, while the General Union of Palestinian Teachers reported that nearly 80,000 students across 220 public, private, and UN-run schools missed instruction due to restricted access and damaged facilities. Returning residents found broken furniture and scattered possessions in homes that had been searched, with local officials reporting the demolition of fifteen homes, shops, roads, and factories.
The military stated that the army conducted thorough searches, detained suspects, and confiscated four weapons, vests, and military equipment, noting that the homes of the two deceased gunmen were demolished on Friday.
