Binance Resumes Customer Withdrawals Following Record Cyber Heist
The Story
Binance resumed customer withdrawals for a number of major assets on Sunday after hackers stole approximately $6.3 billion in tokens from its platform.
The exchange stated it covered 95 percent of the stolen assets by using company money to buy replacement tokens, with the remaining five percent consisting of less liquid assets. Withdrawal volumes experienced an initial spike before beginning a downward trend and stabilizing, while deposit volumes remained substantial. The Federal Bureau of Investigation accused North Korea of being behind the hack, stating that a Pyongyang-affiliated group called TraderTraitor executed the theft on or about October 29, 2026. The platform rolled out the resumption of withdrawals in phases, beginning with the first phase covering fifteen tokens including Bitcoin, Ether, stablecoins, and Dogecoin.
