President Donald Trump has expressed strong criticism of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, stating he believes he deserved the award for settling eight wars and achieving other diplomatic successes.

The prize was awarded to South African jurist Navi Pillay, former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Trump described Pillay as a liberal person who works at the United Nations who nobody has ever heard of. He claimed the committee has an extreme leftist bias and lost its moral compass. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also condemned the award, calling the committee globalist and stating they truly lost their way.

Netanyahu's office said Pillay would be a frontrunner for an award for lies, hatred, and blood libels. Pillay, who previously served on the International Criminal Court (ICC), called U.S. sanctions on the ICC unheard of and unacceptable. The U.S. announced new sanctions on the ICC hours after Pillay was named the laureate. The Nobel Committee chairman, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, praised Pillay for enlarged the scope and impact of international law and advancing a more comprehensive global legal order with exceptional courage. The committee received 287 nominations for the prize. "Saturday Night Live" also mocked Trump's perceived delusion about deserving a Nobel Peace Prize.
