Telangana Minister Konda Surekha Sacked From Cabinet

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy removed Minister Konda Surekha from his cabinet on September 3, 2026, with immediate effect.

The Congress high command approved Surekha's removal on disciplinary grounds following a dispute over remarks made by her daughter, Susmita Patel, against the Chief Minister. Surekha, the Warangal East MLA and an OBC leader, served as minister for endowments, forests, and environment since December 2023. She stated she was not asked to resign and questioned the decision, saying she had neither committed corruption nor been given an opportunity to explain herself.

The rift between Surekha and Reddy had widened after Reddy publicly endorsed MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy's candidature from Parakala for the 2028 state elections, a constituency where Surekha's daughter is projected as the Congress candidate. Surekha's husband, Konda Murali, is a former member of the legislative council. The Chief Minister's office stated that a recommendation to remove Surekha had been sent to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, who approved the decision.

While a woman minister was removed, the government noted that three BC women were appointed to key positions carrying cabinet status. Rahul Gandhi and the Indian National Congress have been described as projecting an image of championing women's rights and empowerment.
