Melania Trump Hosts Russia Ukraine White House Meeting After Oleshky Truce
The Story
US First Lady Melania Trump will host Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House on November 5 to discuss a temporary humanitarian ceasefire and evacuation efforts in the frontline town of Oleshky.
The meeting follows a six-day localized ceasefire in the Russian occupied Kherson region that concluded on Sunday, marking the longest pause in fighting since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. According to the White House, the first lady personally initiated contacts between the two nations and brokered the humanitarian mission, which enabled the evacuation of nearly 800 civilians.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Melania Trump the Order of Princess Olga, 1st Class, citing her personal contribution to humanitarian support and efforts to rescue Ukrainian children. Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and Davyd Arakhamiia, head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, will represent Ukraine at the White House talks. Russia is expected to be represented by Kremlin investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev and Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova, though Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that travel logistics and visa acquisition for Lantratova's delegation remained uncertain.
Marc Beckman, senior advisor to the US first lady, received Ukraine's Golden Heart award for coordinating the operation. The White House meeting precedes separate trilateral talks scheduled for November 10 and 11 in Abu Dhabi, which will be led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky to discuss broader de-escalation and postwar security arrangements.
