Heavy rain and storms have triggered floods and landslides that killed 56 people in India and 14 in Nepal.

In India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, 56 people have died over the past three days, with 46 injured and more than 1,000 houses damaged. Uttar Pradesh recorded 66.5 mm of rain between September 25 and the morning of September 27, compared with a normal 7.6 mm for the period. In Nepal, 14 people have died and 11 are missing.

Gandaki Province alone reported 14 deaths, three injured, two missing, 179 houses completely destroyed, and 28 partially damaged. A total of 512 households, involving 1,684 people, have been displaced or affected in Gandaki Province. The deaths in Nepal occurred since Thursday, September 24, 2026, due to rain-related disasters. In Baglung district, a landslide buried a house on Sunday, September 27, 2026, killing a mother and her three children.

Ten Nepali workers are also missing after an avalanche buried the base camp of Himlung Himal in northern Manang district. Nepali authorities warned of possible flash floods in 49 of the country's 77 districts, with more than half facing high flood or flash-flood risks as water levels in major rivers and tributaries continued to rise.

Last month's deadly floods in Nepal, triggered by a glacial mountain collapse on the China-Nepal border, killed more than 1,450 people and left thousands missing. Uttar Pradesh, home to over 240 million people, frequently experiences rain and thunderstorms during the annual monsoon season from June to September. There are slight variations in the reported death tolls for Nepal, with some sources stating 12 and others 14.

Some reports mention 19 total deaths across India and Nepal, while others state 68. Authorities are carrying out rescue operations and assessing crop damage in India. In Nepal, power supply has been completely disrupted in Manang, Mustang, Myagdi, and Baglung districts, with authorities working to restore electricity.
