Energy experts express skepticism about the short-term impact of President Donald Trump's deal to import Russian diesel on US prices.

Michael Lynch, a distinguished fellow at the Energy Policy Research Foundation, stated that Russian diesel supply to the US would mean existing customers would seek fuel elsewhere, keeping prices stable. A White House official, however, asserted that adding hundreds of thousands of tons of diesel to global markets will lower prices for American farmers, truckers, and workers.

The Treasury Department issued an Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) license on Friday, October 9, allowing Russia to immediately sell diesel to the United States and the world, reversing the US ban on Russian oil imports since the war in Ukraine began. President Trump announced on Truth Social on October 9 that Russia would immediately supply over 300,000 tons of diesel, an additional 500,000 tons in November, and 1 million tons immediately thereafter, with a further 3 million tons to follow.
