A suicide bombing in Dera Ismail Khan, northwestern Pakistan, on Saturday killed at least 11 people and wounded about 30 others.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, which involved a suicide bomber detonating an explosives-laden vehicle at a roadside police checkpoint. Most of the dead and wounded were security personnel and passersby, according to local police chief Safdar Baloch. This attack occurred two days after fighting along the southwestern border between Pakistan and Afghanistan killed at least 13 Afghan Taliban personnel, according to Pakistan's government.

Afghan authorities, however, denied Pakistan's claim regarding the border clash. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated at the UN General Assembly that militant groups, including the TTP and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), are using Afghan territory to conduct attacks in Pakistan. The Taliban authorities reject accusations that they allow Afghan territory to be used for attacks against neighboring countries.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of allowing TTP members to operate from Afghan soil and has demanded Kabul prevent cross-border attacks. The renewed hostilities threaten mediation efforts by China, Turkiye, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia aimed at securing lasting peace between the two countries. Pakistan had previously carried out airstrikes inside Afghanistan on September 21, claiming to kill 28 militants, while Taliban authorities reported civilian casualties.
