British Prime Minister Burnham Exchanged Messages With Trump Aide Impersonator

President Donald Trump downplayed worries on August 17 regarding British Prime Minister Andy Burnham's exchange with an impersonator of Susie Wiles, stating, "I spoke to him. We had a good conversation."

Andy Burnham, the newly elected prime minister of the United Kingdom, exchanged text messages with an impersonator posing as White House chief of staff Susie Wiles. No verbal conversation took place. The exchanges began before Burnham became Prime Minister on July 20 and continued after he took office. An official source described the messages as of no significance.

Burnham began to suspect the person was not who they claimed to be during the conversation. The suspicious activity was reported to authorities, and the British embassy in Washington raised concerns. The White House was alerted to the possibility that Susie Wiles’ personal phone had been compromised for a second time. The FBI began investigating an attempt to impersonate Wiles last year after her personal phone was believed to have been compromised.

Wiles was also among those targeted by a cyber espionage unit linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in 2024. Downing Street would not disclose whether any sensitive information had been disclosed. A government spokesman stated, "We do not communicate on national security matters."
