NASA Invites India's ISRO to Join Moon Base Program

NASA has invited the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to join its Moon Base program, a move aimed at deepening the partnership between the United States and India in lunar exploration and human spaceflight.

The invitation was extended under the framework of the Artemis Accords. The announcement comes as the U.S. and India continue to strengthen their collaboration in space exploration. U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor stated that NASA's invitation would further deepen the two countries' partnership in deep-space exploration. The Moon Base program was announced during NASA's "Ignition" event on March 24, 2026, where the U.S. space agency unveiled a series of initiatives.

This invitation follows the 9th meeting of the India-US Civil Space Joint Working Group, which India hosted on August 5-6. Ambassador Gor also held discussions with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday regarding U.S.-India strategic cooperation, describing the meeting as fruitful. Gor underscored the significance of the robust bilateral partnership in tackling global security challenges. He stated that the U.S. and India share many common goals and that bilateral engagement continues to grow.
