Russia's Supreme Court on Monday annulled the opposition Yabloko party's registration for the country's September parliamentary elections.
The ruling, which sidelines the only officially registered party that opposes Moscow's war in Ukraine, came after a lawsuit filed by the pro-Kremlin nationalist Rodina party. Yabloko leader Nikolai Rybakov stated that everything we do should be dedicated to stopping deaths and bringing back peace. The party, registered in 2001, is one of Russia's oldest political parties.
About a hundred protesters gathered outside the courthouse chanting "Shame! Shame!" after the ruling was delivered. The decision highlights the ongoing suppression of dissent in Russia.
