Houthis Strike Marib Again; UN Warns of Wider Yemen Conflict

Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis launched ballistic missiles and drones at displacement camps and residential neighborhoods in Marib on Friday, killing two people and wounding 14, according to state news agency SABA.

Yemen's army stated on Saturday that it had responded against Houthi forces on several fronts along the lines of contact. The army added that it would respond to any further targeting of its units with necessary military measures. The UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, warned that the country is nearing a wider conflict, stating that Yemen is at its greatest risk of renewed major conflict since a 2022 truce.

The UN Security Council also expressed concern on August 7 regarding heightened tensions in Yemen. The Houthis' actions targeted displacement camps and residential neighborhoods in Marib, a city that has seen previous fighting. The UN envoy's warning indicates a potential escalation of the ongoing conflict in Yemen.
