Trump Renews Call for New Mexico to Change Name to 'New America'
The Story
President Donald Trump renewed his call for New Mexico to change its name to "New America," stating on Truth Social that "We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America!"
He claimed the name change would add great value and prestige to the State, boost residents' pride, and potentially make "Crooked Elections" honest again. Trump also claimed that home values and incomes would rise with the name change. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham rejected the proposal, stating the name is not a matter for debate and has been theirs since before the U.S. existed. Trump's suggestion follows a September post where he shared a map of New Mexico with "Mexico" crossed out and "America" written underneath.
