Masked Anti-Migrant Protesters Disrupt Dover Port Traffic, Government Condemns Action

Kent Police reported no arrests were made after a spontaneous protest in Dover on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

All involved had dispersed by midday, and traffic was flowing normally. Hundreds of masked men, largely dressed in black and wearing balaclavas, blocked roads leading to the Port of Dover and the A20 on Saturday morning. The disruption caused a 6.4-kilometer (4-mile) traffic jam and halted all traffic in and out of Britain's busiest ferry port.

Protesters chanted whose streets? Their streets! and stop the boats while marching through the town. Some spray-painted blood is on your hands outside a migrant facility. The Port of Dover initially reported an ongoing public order incident affecting all routes. By late morning, one road to the port had reopened, and P&O Ferries stated access was restored just before midday.

Masked men were seen boarding a train at Dover Priory station around noon. Local councillor Chris Vinson said the protest appeared to be illegal migration-related. Some protesters claimed links to Patriot Platform, a hard-Right anti-migrant group founded by Danny Tommo. Far-Right activist Tommy Robinson shared footage and claimed many more protesters were on their way.

Dover handled over nine million passengers and two million freight vehicles in 2025. The government condemned the behavior, stating it went beyond peaceful protest and caused travel disruption. Councillor Vinson described the protesters' appearance as extremely intimidating. Labour MP Mike Tapp criticized the protesters, stating he was fed up with idiots coming to Dover to cause disruption. He also noted that small boat crossings were down by 40% compared to 2025.
