Russia launched another aerial attack targeting Ukrainian cities and power plants on October 14, 2026, hours after the Kremlin stated the scope of US President Donald Trump's proposed energy ceasefire was unclear.

Trump unilaterally announced an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on October 11, 2026, without outlining its scope. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the continued Russian attacks a show of disregard for the Trump-backed truce. Zelensky said Ukraine is ready to adhere to a full, comprehensive energy truce if Russia does the same, noting Ukrainian forces have not attacked Russian refineries since Trump's announcement.

However, Russian strikes against the Ukrainian power grid have continued unabated. Trump has declined to blame Moscow for breaking the truce, instead ramping up pressure on Ukraine and threatening to cut off intelligence and military aid. Ukraine accused the US of assisting Russia's war effort, stating Washington failed to warn it of incoming missile strikes and slowed Starlink satellite internet services, owned by Trump ally Elon Musk's SpaceX.

Trump had suggested Ukraine needs a new leader to replace Zelensky and claimed Vladimir Putin wants a peace deal more than Kyiv. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham branded Trump's deal with Putin a dark moment for Ukraine. Burnham is set to meet with Zelensky in Downing Street on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in a public display of Britain's ongoing support.

Burnham stated his intent to repair bridges between Trump and Zelensky, telling MPs he would be careful in his language. King Charles is also set to receive Zelensky for an audience. Britain plans faster missile deliveries and more sanctions on Russia.
