Authorities have detained three sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) planned September 27 protest.

Aleema Khan was detained on Sunday, September 20, and subsequently transferred to Kot Lakhpat jail. On Monday, September 21, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were also detained for 30 days under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, and moved to Kot Lakhpat jail. The Lahore Deputy Commissioner's office issued the detention orders, citing that the sisters were prejudicial to the public safety and maintenance of public order and involved in motivating workers to damage property and create law and order situations.

A petition challenging the detention orders for all three sisters was filed in the Lahore High Court on Monday. The PTI plans to hold a nationwide protest and march to Islamabad to demand Imran Khan's release from jail and assert the supremacy of the Constitution. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar stated that the party has conveyed its message to federal authorities regarding the recent arrests and urged a reduction in tensions.

Imran Khan has been incarcerated since 2023, and court orders for weekly family meetings have reportedly not been fully implemented. Other family members are expected to attempt a meeting at Adiala jail on Tuesday to highlight the non-implementation of court orders.
