USS Abraham Lincoln Sailors Jump Overboard Amid Extended Deployment

Sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln have reportedly attempted to jump overboard amid a months-long deployment and poor conditions.

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and its approximately 5,000 sailors and Marines entered their ninth month at sea, with the deployment extended beyond its original seven-month duration and now lacking a public return date. Families of crew members have voiced concerns about mental health and deteriorating conditions, citing issues such as food shortages, closed laundries, and poor rations.

Annabelle Loma stated her husband attempted to jump overboard and is now on medical hold, fearing a dishonorable discharge would end his 13-year career. Maria Rodriguez reported her husband intervened to prevent a shipmate from going overboard. The Navy has stated it is continuously assessing the psychological readiness of its sailors. Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao indicated the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier group is preparing to relieve the Lincoln, but provided no timeline.

The deployment began in November and was tied to U.S. operations against Iran, with the ship having spent 250 consecutive days at sea without making land.
