Blast Rocks Riyadh Airport Amid Escalating Houthi Missile Strikes
The Story
A loud blast was heard at Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, October 10, 2026, leading to the evacuation of travelers from parts of the facility and the diversion or cancellation of all flights.
More than a dozen ambulances responded to the scene. The incident occurred amid an escalation of missile strikes by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis on Saudi Arabia. The airport had already been attacked twice earlier in the week, resulting in four deaths, several injuries, and damage to an aircraft. Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, and Kuwait Airways canceled multiple flights to and from Riyadh due to the security situation and airport closure.
Organizers of major energy and investment conferences scheduled in Riyadh stated their events would proceed as planned, assuring attendees of security measures. The Houthis have declared Saudi airspace a zone of military operations following an offensive by the Saudi-backed Yemeni government. Oman's foreign minister condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi airports, expressing categorical rejection of attacks on civilian infrastructure. Türkiye also condemned the Houthi attacks, urging restraint and warning of regional destabilization.
