Trump Mocks Banned Reporters; Republicans Defend White House Access Ban
The Story
President Donald Trump posts AI-generated images on Truth Social mocking the news organizations he banned from the White House.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise states he does not know why Trump banned the three news outlets. Representative Maria Elvira Salazar defends Trump's move, saying he has his own style. Senator John Barrasso states Trump's decision to ban CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House does not violate the Constitution, arguing the press has an obligation to report fairly.
U.N. Ambassador Mike Waltz describes the ban as spot on, stating Trump is absolutely within his rights to limit journalists to government facilities. Waltz argues the Supreme Court has protected the right to publish, but not access to any government facility. Maryland Governor Wes Moore accuses Trump of using the Constitution as a suggestion box.
MS NOW host Rachel Maddow calls the ban a pitiful attempt by weak president to change the subject, stating Trump does not believe in the First Amendment. She predicts the president will be sued and lose the case. Trump announced the ban on Friday afternoon on Truth Social, accusing the outlets of constant 'reporting' FAKE NEWS! and writing "FICTION and LIES."
Journalists from the three outlets were denied entry to the White House on Saturday morning after their badges were disabled or seized. The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) urges the Trump administration to lift the ban, calling it a violation of the First Amendment and citing court precedents against arbitrary denial of access.
