The Kremlin accused British Prime Minister Andy Burnham of stoking anti-Russian sentiment and fostering total Russophobia in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Burnham's approach, along with that of other European nations, is utterly short-sighted and will not contribute to de-escalation in Europe. Burnham addressed the UN on Tuesday, announcing plans for a new National Centre for Information Defence to combat disinformation and hostile state information warfare, singling out Russia. Burnham also repeated accusations that Russian agencies interfered in Britain's 2019 general election and have amplified far-right narratives to stoke tensions.

The new centre, initially led by the Cabinet Office, will work with intelligence agencies, government departments, law enforcement, and social media companies. Burnham also stated the UK would take the lead on global AI standards. In separate remarks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump praised Burnham as a natural business person but criticized a UK deal concerning the Chagos Islands as terrible and ridiculous. Trump also claimed the US-UK relationship is more up with Burnham than with his predecessor, Keir Starmer.
