US Military Forms New Task Force to Target Iranian Land Routes
The Story
The United States military has established a new 20-member unit named Task Force Iron Gate to restrict trade and supply lines across Iran's land borders and the Caspian Sea. Based in Tampa, Florida, the civilian and military personnel will coordinate with other government agencies to target advanced weapons systems, dual-use technologies, sanctioned materials, and illegal revenue streams.
Central Command commander Admiral Brad Cooper stated that the task force reinforces the ongoing naval blockade of Iranian ports, which has halted more than $25 billion in crude oil exports since the start of the war over eight months ago. The naval blockade remains a central point of conflict, as Tehran demands its end to resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a route responsible for roughly 20 percent of global crude trade.
Revolutionary Guards spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi dismissed the new task force as wordplay, asserting that Tehran has made preparations and communicates closely with neighbors to prevent severe economic pressure from causing an economic collapse. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that he held phone calls with 12 foreign ministers over a 48-hour period to discuss regional developments, national sovereignty, and regional security arrangements without outside powers.
